Some thoughts for the starting school year
School Updates
Week of December 18, 2023
Dear families,
This is our last week before Winter Break. You may notice that your child (ren) are a bit more tired, perhaps more fidgety, or having more emotional needs. That is completely common this time of the year as their bodies and minds anticipate being away from school for two weeks. Remember that Winter Break begins December 25 and school will resume January 8th of 2024! Happy New Year in advance and to those who celebrate, happy holidays!
Updates:
- School Assemblies and School Spirit :
- School Assemblies: Our next assembly is on January 19th and it will celebrate African Heritage. Mme Gavin and her 4th/5th grade students will present during this assembly. As usual, we will have our Relay Race, a Dance, and Certificate names names announced. We have the lower grades and the upper grades do these assemblies separate each month as it is developmentally appropriate.
- The next celebration will be on February 12th and we will have our NAAPID Assemblies back-to-back; grades 3-5 will be at 1:50-2:50, and garden PreK-2 at 3:00-3:30 in the Gym. You are all invited to join!
- School Spirit: This Friday, December 22, all students are invited to wear PJ's. It is pajama day for all students if you are willing and able to dress them in one. This is also part of our PBIS system and students will receive stars per classroom in return. It is something fun we get to do as a school!
- Winter Open House: This is happening at our school on January, 25th, from 5-6:30. This is for new families and current families!
- L'Etoile Du Nord BIPOC Support Group: We will begin BIPOC support group every third Friday of the month from 6-8 P.M. The first one will be January 18th. We are aware that it takes a village, and LNFI wants to be partners with you in the village. This is a space for students, families, and staff who identify as people of color. Non-French speaking parents can also learn how to speak French while the students watch a movie. Please, reach out to me if you have any questions.
- Coffee with the Principal: Once per month, on the last Friday of the month, all families are invited for a non-structured, safe, and welcoming conversation over coffee (and treats!) on a Friday morning. The exact date and details will be sent out in the next newsletter.
- Parent Drop Off Reminder: Thank you for your continual support in the following during parent drop off. Here are some gentle reminders to assure the safety of our students:
- Do not drop off before 9:15. We cannot supervise students before as there are no adults available and 9:15 is the school start time
- If using the car line to drop off, please stay in one lane.
- Wait for the person in front of you to let their student or students out, and until they begin driving away. Do NOT go around them as that is dangerous especially when conditions become slippery.
- Do not stop and park and leave your car. We have three staff outside who walk students in and welcome them. Please, stay in your vehicle.
- If you would like to talk, please park in a parking spot after 9:30 and after drop off. Do not stop and talk as this delays the line of traffic.
- Travel Requests Form: If you will be traveling with your family, please fill out the form, which you can get from the office or request one from the school (send to teacher and/or clerk). We need this for attendance reporting purposes.
- French Teaching Assistants: We now have FOUR building teaching assistants who are all French fluent! Between our intern programming, and our teaching assistants, our licensed teachers are happy to partner with more adults to provide the best education possible for our students. We are fortunate to have multiple educators per classroom at a time!
